Want it? Work for it, because we’re #NotThere

Yesterday was International Women’s Day.

While it may mean a lot of things, to me that day serves as a reminder, that there is work to be done in order to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender stereotypes.

As women, let’s understand that this cause isn’t just about demanding for our rights as women and promoting gender equality, but it is also about owning up to the idea.

We can never achieve equality, when we continue to give in to what the society thinks women should be and do. We can never achieve equality, when we put limitations on what women can achieve. We will not achieve equality, when we support gender stereotypes and see femininity as an inferior quality.

More importantly, we will not achieve equality, when we can’t give the same treatment to men. They also can be whatever they want to be and do. If they want to stay at home and take care of their kids, it is perfectly fine. If they want to be sensitive and gentle, instead of aggressive and strong, it is also okay.

Stop taking advantage of the gender stereotypes that allow women to be lazy! If we want equality, don’t just expect that it will be given to us. Because we need to work for it.

And do it while you wear your flowery dress and killer heels, or pull off those pants and t-shirts. It doesn’t matter. Because a woman can do whatever a woman pleases.
